Open RA position (as PhD student)
We currently open for RA positions equivalently to the JSPS DC support for doctoral students from FY2026 - .
The project focuses on the application of Machine Learning and AI to in silico biomolecular design, aiming to control biomolecular activity, and is supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Under this project, PhD students will:
- Work closely with experimental researchers to validate computational designs
- Have access to Japan’s flagship supercomputers, including Fugaku and TSUBAME4
- The RA appointment is available for up to three years, corresponding to the standard PhD duration. Depending on performance, extension to a postdoctoral researcher position may also be possible.

Ookayama campus, Midorigaoka area, Institute of Science Tokyo
Expected Candidate Profile:
- A strong background in either (or both) of the following areas:
(a) Biochemistry, statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and related fields
(b) Machine learning, reinforcement learning algorithms, and high-performance/parallel programming (C++, Fortran, CUDA, Python)
- Proficiency in Bash scripting is required.
- Ability to successfully pass the doctoral entrance examination at the School of Life Science and Technology, Institute of Science Tokyo, under the IGP A or C program.
Note: Successful candidates in IGP A may be eligible for additional MEXT scholarships, subject to performance, in combination with RA support.
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong independence and self-motivation, with excellent problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, particularly with experimental researchers
